In today’s Gospel Jesus calls us friends. As someone once put it, “A friend is the one who comes in when the whole world has gone out.”
And so, Jesus said, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (John 15:13).
In fact, the cross of Jesus proves that he is our friend and that he loves us. Whenever we doubt the love of God in our lives, my suggestion is to contemplate a crucifix or hold one in your hand. His cross is a sign of his truly great love for you — loving you unto death!
And, also, when you doubt that God cares for you, listen to the words of Jesus himself, “As the Father has loved me, so I love you.”
If that doesn’t fill you with joy, there is nothing much that will. It should also cause us to want to do what he tells us: “(Jesus said), This I command you: Love one another.”
We can only give what we have received. Receive the love of Jesus, who is your best friend, so that you can fulfill his commandment to love each other.
Have a blessed week everyone.
